These parties can be made a whole lot exciting by calling in a professional magician or these can be arranged by putting together different magic party games.

Magic Freeze

Just tell the kids to be prepared for a magic party game and tell them the rules. Play a song with good beats and ask them to dance and wave their magic wands. Then suddenly stop the music and the kids who will be waving their wands after the stop command will be eliminated. This process will go on until the last kid standing, who will be the winner of the game. Just to make things really exciting, tell them about the different prizes in a closed bag and ask them to grab their prize in five seconds. This magic party game will just rush adrenaline through all the kids.

Do As The Wizard Sez

This game is very much similar to Simon Sez, but instead of saying Simon Sez, you are going to say Wizard Sez, which the kids would love as magic party games. Get all the kids in one line and say Wizard Sez “Turn Around”, the children will “Turn Around” and then say “Turn Around” and if any of the kids turn around, they will be eliminated from the game. Some of the other commands that you can give are “Raise Your Arm” “Look Up” and any other commands that you can come up with. Just continue giving the commands like that and the kids will be eliminated till one kid survives the game, who will be the champion of Do As The Wizard Sez of the year.

The magic party games must be really creative so that every kid who is a part of this event just have some real time fun.

This card trick is fairly simple in principle, but the audience will never figure it out. You will be convincing the audience that you have powerful X-ray skills and can stare through the top card on a deck, and read which card it is

Here’s how it will seem to your amazed audience. You ask somebody from the audience to shuffle the cards, and check to make sure it’s not a marked deck or anything. You then take the deck, shuffle it once more for good measure, and then hand them back the deck.

After they are holding the deck, you tell them to separate the deck into four equal stacks. They don’t have to be exactly equal, only approximate. Then you stun the audience by staring directly through the top card to the other side, reading the name and value of the card. You will be able to easily do this many times and never come close to being discovered.

Here’s the trick. As you shuffle the deck one last time, take a quick glance at the bottom card, and secretly place it on top of the deck. This may take a wee bit of practice, but after you do it a few times at home, you’ll be a natural in front of others.

Once you know which card is on top, you’re ready to proceed. Watch them as they cut the deck into four stacks, and remember which one has the card you just peeked at. Let’s call it card one to make it easy. Pick any stack that doesn’t contain “card one,” but you actually say “card one.” Then pick it up, and set it face down in front of the stack. Remember this card now as card two. You’ll need to have somebody remember all four cards, so you can reveal them all at once. On the next pile of cards, you say “card two,” and look at the next card, which in reality is card three. The trick is to stay one step ahead of yourself.

After you’ve finally come to the stack that has “card one” on top, you’ll actually be saying “card four.” Then with all four cards laid face down, you have the audience member who was recording the cards call them out again. After they do this, you quickly flip all the cards over, showing them your accurate readings. This takes a little of memory, so it can help to practice with your friends before doing it in front of strangers. Have fun.

Magicians today are a far cry from their ancient predecessors. Instead of pulling rabbits out of hats, the magi were guardians of Egyptian kings. Throughout the ages, magic and the magician has evolved greatly and today’s illusionist is more of a celebrity than a mystic. In this article, we’ll meet the masters of sleight of hand who have laid the foundation for today’s renewed interest in the unknown.

Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin, who opened an illusion theater in Paris in the 1840s, is believed to be the father of the modern magician. Modern entertainment magic owes much of its origins to him.

In the 1900s, he was followed by the greatest celebrity magician of all time, Harry Houdini. Houdini’s real name was Ehrich Weiss and he took his stage name from Robert-Houdin,

He developed a range of stage illusion tricks, many of which were based on escapology. In addition to expanding the range of illusion hardware, showmanship and deceptive technique, these performers established the modern relationship between the performer and the audience.

Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of impossible or or supernatural feats using purely natural means. These feats are called magic tricks, effects or illusions. The most important tool for any magician is his audience.

To believe that what they are seeing really is an illusion, the gathering must be willing to suspend their disbelief. Traditionally, he refuses to reveal his secrets to the audience so as not to expose the art form and preserve the livelihood of magicians who perform for money. This is such a common practice that there is even a magician’s oath.

Magic has come and gone in fashion and a select group of successful magicians have become some of the most famous celebrities in popular entertainment. Doug Henning’s show restored magic as a form of mass entertainment with his distinctive look and exuberant showmanship. Since then, he has been succeeded by the likes of David Copperfield, Penn and Teller, Zeigfried and Roy, and Criss Angel.

In ancient Egypt, wands were among the various articles left in Pharaoh’s tombs along with articles of personal use, weapons, amulets and magic texts. The wand was supposed to allow the soul of the Pharaoh to use all these articles. Moses is believed to have carried a hazel wand. In wall murals of the third and fourth centuries, representations of magic wands are found.

In some branches of magic, wands are used for the channeling of energy. Though wands are generally crafted out of wood or metal, crystal is also used for making them. A branch of oak, hazel or other trees is pruned and then carved or decorated to create a wand that suits the magician. Nowadays, readymade wands are also available and can be purchased from several stores or even over the Internet.

Works of fiction and fantasy have given magic wands the popularity that they are enjoying now. Wands are represented as spell-casting magical rods with the ability to change destiny by performing miracles. Fairy godmothers and witches are generally shown as carrying wands with a shining star or point on its tip. Most of us are familiar with the depiction of Cinderella’s fairy godmother’s wand and all that it did. Wands are also portrayed as weapons used in magical duels.

In the fantasy world of Harry Potter, a wand helps the wizard or witch to focus their energies and perform spells. Wands are generally required for most spells though it is possible to perform spells without them. Each wand is said to be unique and different from other wands. They are available in many varieties, being made of different woods, such as holly, willow, rosewood or oak and having different magical cores such as phoenix feather, unicorn hair or dragon heartstring.

Magic can catch the attention of any person. It can amuse a person by simply entertaining and making them think about the possibility of magic. As there are many people who get entertained, there are also more individuals who are interested in learning how to perform the magic tricks. Some magic tricks are very easy to learn and perform in social gatherings like parties. Such tricks require only common items such as matchboxes, bowls, coins and the like. Most tricks require some kind of pre-arrangement, but some can be done without any preparation.

One such easy trick is the “Ice Baby” trick. You pour some water into a bowl, say some magic words and turn it upside down and lo and behold, ice cubes fall from the bowl. This trick can be performed by placing a sponge and ice cubes in the bowl beforehand so that the sponge absorbs the water that is poured into the bowl and the ice cubes fall out.The jumping rubber band trick is a popular trick that needs no previous arrangements. A rubber band is wrapped around your little finger and ring finger. When you stretch the rubber band, insert your little, ring, middle and first finger into it and open your fingers again, the rubber band mysteriously jumps to the first and middle fingers.

Coin vanishing tricks are among the most popular tricks. A variety of coin vanishing tricks are prevalent the world over. A coin is placed on the table and when you pick it up and say the magic words and hey presto, it disappears! What you should keep in mind while performing this trick is that when you cover the coin with your hand and slide it to edge of the table to pick it up, you should push it onto your lap and then pretend that the coin is still in your hand. After that you say the magic words and open your hand, and the coin has disappeared from your hand.

Another interesting coin trick requires a glass, a sheet of colored paper, a handkerchief and a coin. The audience is shown the coin and an upturned glass kept on a sheet of colored sheet of paper. You put a handkerchief over the glass and move it over. When the handkerchief is removed the coin has disappeared. This trick involves a certain amount of pre-planning. A circle the size of the rim and of the same color of the sheet is taped to the glass so that it blends with the colored paper. Thus when the glass is moved over, the circle hides the coin from view and the coin appears to have disappeared.

How do magicians go about it when they desire to cause something to appear mysteriously? The most common solution of the problem is a laborious and tedious search. Catalogues are thoroughly shifted. Textbooks on magic are thumbed from cover to cover. The performances of other magicians are eagerly scouted. And the magic shops are visited again and again.

Of course, the deliberate decision to add an effect of a definite nature is not the usualway the average magician adds to his routine or repertoire. The usual trick is added by the run-of-the-mill magical enthusiast simply because something in the number appeals to him. It might be the appearance of the apparatus. Or the apparent profundity of the method, the deceptive feature. Or the comedy potentialities. Or any of a number of other factors. I’m convinced this is not the correct way to add program material. It seems far better to me to add material from the viewpoint of its importance in adding entertainment value to the performer’s routine.

However, should a magician decide to add a production or appearance number to his program, usually through search he finds some type of trick that supplies the desired general effect. The specific trick selected usually determines the object with which the effect is accomplished. Then, the object to be used established, if he desires to tie it into a unified routine, he shapes and warps and changes matters until he meets his requirements as nearly as possible.

The somewhat more exacting magician will usually adopt the second method. Here, he will decide to add some type of production or mysterious appearance. Before embarking upon his search, he will determine the object or objects with which he wishes to accomplish the effect. Then, as before, he will make the search. But this investigation is not so general. Specifically, he knows what he wants to cause to appear. His hunt is limited to tricks in which the desired object is used. If he fails in his search, or if the tricks he finds do not seem satisfactory to him, usually he will decide upon a second object to take the place of the first choice

Magic props come in all shapes and sizes. You can build your routine around simple things like a deck of cards, small animals or balloons. You can find a few common items in the grocery such as knives, paper or sugar cubes. But eventually you’ll want to search out and find a good magic shop.

Not only will you be able to get all the props and equipment you need for your performance, the magic shop is great resource for new ideas and even places to perform.

If you require custom equipment you can go also about making it yourself. In centuries past, most magicians had to build their own props and equipment. Some tricks don’t require anything more than some plywood and a few tools. Also, if your props are home made you can be sure that no one else will have a trick exactly like yours.

The first piece you may want to create is your magician’s table. You can custom build it with hidden compartments to assist you with tricks where objects need to disappear.

Another important, although sometimes overlooked, piece of magician’s equipment is the outfit. What the magician wears can be a critical part of the performance and set the tone for the audience. Many magicians also like to have customized outfits with hidden pockets or panels to assist with tricks. Unless you have a talent for sewing you may want to consult with a local tailor to get your outfit created.

Perhaps the most common prop in magic is the deck of cards. This may seem simple but there are many different types. There are different colors, sizes, marked cards, double faced and double backed cards just to name a few. Most magic stores will have a type of deck to accommodate any tricks you might be working on but some magicians have their cards customized as well. If you do go with customized cards remember that you want them to look as much like an “ordinary” deck of cards as possible. You want the audience to believe that the magic is coming from you, not the props.

If your audience consists of a large group of children then the use of animals in your tricks is a must. Usually a white rabbit or white doves work the best. Doves are the easiest to train and rabbits don’t make noise or bite. Some magic stores will carry them but you can also get them at a local pet store.

If your trick calls for you to cover something with a handkerchief, you should opt for silk rather than a cotton handkerchief. Silk adds a touch of class and they are usually larger and come in a large variety of colors.

Complex magic tricks will almost always require some equipment or props so be prepared to go shopping or head out to the garage to make them yourself. Just remember that you make the magic happen, not the props. Also remember that fancy props are no substitute for honing your skills through practice and repetition. Master your craft and the right equipment will just add the finishing touch to your professional level performance.

The Vanishing Coin

Most magic hinges on banter (how well you tell a story that surrounds the trick) and since this is such a simple trick, some good banter will serve you well here. You’ll need a coin and a table where you can sit.

Place the coin on the table and press down on it with your index, middle and ring fingers. Slide the coin toward you. When it arrives at the edge of the table, two things happen. Secretly, you let it drop into you lap. At the same moment, you press your thumb against your index, middle and ring fingers as if you’re grasping the coin and you raise your hand into the air as if you were holding it. Blow on your hand, open your fingers, and your audience will be stunned to see the coin has vanished.

This is a simple trick that you’ll only need to practice a couple of times before you have it nailed.

The Balloon That Won’t Pop

You’ve probably seen this magic trick before. A magician pushes a needle into a balloon, then pulls it out without the balloon popping or losing any air. Cool, huh?

Well, it’s fairly easy to do. All you need is an inflated balloon, a long pin that’s easy for the audience to see, and a piece of transparent tape. In preparation, stick the piece of tape on the balloon where you plan to insert the pin or needle. You want to make sure the tape is applied evenly so that there’s no chance for leaks and so that it’s invisible to your audience members.

When it’s time (in other words, after a little banter about how delicate balloons are and how you’ve never tried this trick before, etc.), insert the pin into the balloon through the piece of tape. Don’t rush. Take your time. And carefully roll the pin into the balloon instead of just pushing it in.

Practice a couple of times until you get a feel for how the tape holds the seal of the hole in the balloon.

The Incredible Coin Balance

In this trick, a coin will magically stand on edge in your hand and remain balanced there.

You’ll need a large coin (a half-dollar, for instance) and a straight pin. Before attempting this illusion, you’ll want to practice keeping the straight pin concealed in one hand.

Okay, with your other hand, remove the coin from your pocket and show it to the audience. The banter in this case is about how you intend to use the power of your mind to make the coin stand up between your fingertips. If you want to add an extra wrinkle, you can use a coin from the audience instead of your own coin. It doesn’t matter.

Place the coin flat on your face-up fingertips. The straight pin should be concealed under the coin, between your fingers. Raise the coin to a standing position with your hand (the pin is raised at the same time, so that it’s supporting the coin). Once the coin is standing on its edge, supported by the straight pin, remove your other hand and the coin will magically remain standing on its edge.

As with all these magic tricks for beginners, practice it a few times until you get a feel for how it works and how you can make your movements and banter as smooth as possible.
